NEAR

Syntax: EXECUTE script NEAR [tolerance]

Operates on all elements that are near the current element. This operator creates a “buffer zone” on-the-fly around the current element and sees which other elements fall within the buffer zone. The size of the buffer zone is determined by the tolerance parameter; the default tolerance is zero, which means that the elements must touch each other.

The NEAR operator only requires that a part of the element be inside the buffer zone. To include the entire element inside the buffer zone, use the XNEAR operator.

When making spatial analysis on shapes, the buffer zone is generated around the linework of the shape and only elements that are near the linework satisfy the NEAR operator. To find elements that are either inside or NEAR the shape perimeter (with a certain tolerance), use the INSIDE or OVERLAP operator.
